About Us

The Real Estate Career Academy (RECA) is the award winning education division of the Fredericksburg Area Association of REALTORS®. Overseen by the FAAR Education Working Group, this program has rapidly advanced over the past three years to meet and equip today's REALTORS® with the tools they need to succeed in a challenging and competitive market place.  

Classes are open to both members of the association as well as non-members

Classroom Instruction

Post-license Seminar: This power packed 2 day program supplements the basic tools of licensure. From contracts to closing, our area's top producing agents and instructors deliver pertinent and timely information for post licensing and continuing education credit, all for a very low investment! Classes may also be taken individually. This seminar meets the license renewal requirements.

Continuing Education Seminar:  If you are ready to work harder, and smarter, this 2 day program delivers an advanced and aggressive training program aimed at accelerating your career.Classes may also be taken individually. This seminar meets the license renewal requirements.

Brokers Seminar: Learn the secrets of good management, and how to avoid litigious pitfalls from the best in the business in this 1 day program. This series is intended to help the REALTOR® Broker stay on the top of the game. Catch up on today's management issues and learn how to protect your business and your agents! (This program provides the required 8 hours of Broker CE requirements)

Road Shows (We’ll Come to You!): Do you want to schedule training in your office for REALTOR Tech tools, Fair Housing, ABR, or Ethics? Look no further, RECA's travel to you! At your request, RECA's highly qualified team of instructors are happy to come to you, and provide training from our assortment of CE/PL approved courses, as well as, certifications and designations courses. Approved available upon request by contacting Valeri Colon, Education Director at vcolon@faarmembers.com.

Real Estate Topics Seminars: Occasionally, RECA will offer FREE non-credit courses to our members [low price for non-members] on various real estate related topics.  These courses are designed to address the latest trends, interests, and advancements in the field.  Attending a seminar will keep you current and sharpen your skills while giving you an opportunity to collaborate with fellow agents.    

 

Online Instruction

RECA OnLine Education: All of our online courses are designed to be simple, easy and flexible to fit your schedule, while also engaging and enriching educational experiences.  Select the appropriate number of courses and credit hours you need to meet your license renewal requirements. You may submit your course enrollment online anytime, day or night. Once your enrollment request is received, it is processed allowing you to begin your courses right away!

REALTOR University Online (ABR, ABRM and More): The National Association of REALTORS® Internet-based education delivery system where real estate professionals can take courses online for continuing education credit, professional development, and designation certification.

GRI at the REALTOR Institute: GRI is a professional designation which stands for Graduate, REALTOR® Institute. GRI is recognized nationwide as the standard for real estate professionalism and knowledge. Virginia’s REALTOR® Institute programs consists of twelve one-day modules of 7 1/2 hours each and has ranked as one of the country’s top Institute programs.

 

Accreditation

As defined by The U.S. Department of Education accreditation means:

  1. Assures students that the institution operates on a sound financial basis,
  2. An approved program of study
  3. Qualified instructors,
  4. Appropriate recruitment and admissions policies,
  5. Truthful and reliable course offering advertisements, and
  6. Adequate facilities and equipment.

RECA is a Professional Real Estate Institute Licensed by the DPOR in Virginia, to teach real estate courses, prepare candidates for their State and National Exams and to satisfy state licensing requirements.

DPOR "Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation" is a Government authority that issues licensing to Professionals after their education even the academic ones and before practicing a business.

 

Renewal Requirements

Salesperson & broker Licensing-  Salespersons must complete a 60 hour course called “Principles of Real Estate and pass the State and National portions of the salesperson examination. Brokers must complete 180 hour of required broker specific and broker related courses, pass the State and National Portions of the broker examination, and submit verification of experience (actively engaged as a salesperson for 36 out of the 48 months preceding application for licensure).

PL- New licensees need to take 30 hours of post-license education in lieu of taking any continuing education courses in the first year after they receive their license. 15 of the 30 required hours must include a minimum of 3 hrs of fair housing laws, ethics, law, contracts, and agency. The remaining hours can be in either mandatory or real estate related topics. New agents must wait until their first two-year licensure term ends and renew their license to begin taking Continuing Education courses.

CE – 16 hours of continuing education are required; 8 of the 16 required hours must include a minimum of 2 hrs of fair housing laws, 3 hrs ethics, and at least 1 hr in real estate law, contracts, and agency. The remaining hours can be in either mandatory or real estate related topics. Brokers require an additional 8 hours in Broker Management.
