What are the category requirements for re-licensing?

Salesperson Continuing Education (2 Year Cycle):

Sixteen (16) hours of Continuing Education are required to renew or activate your broker license. You must have 2 hours in Fair Housing, 1 hour in Legal Updates/Law, 1 hour in Ethics & Standards of Conduct, 1 hour in Real Estate Agency, 1 hour in Real Estate Contracts, and the remaining 10 hours may be in Real Estate Related Subjects or in the specific categories.

Salesperson Post Licensing (First 2 year cycle - Must be completed in first year):

All Salespersons who are renewing their license for the FIRST TIME and were licensed (active or inactive) after December 31, 2003: must complete 30 hours of Post License Education instead of Continuing Education. You may only choose one track for your mandatory hours. Once you complete a mandatory course in a track, you must complete all of the mandatory hours in that track. The elective hours may be taken from any tracks. Completed Post License Education credits are identified in the lower right column by mandatory or elective hours.

Broker Continuing Education (2 year cycle):

Brokers who have licenses expiring after July 1, 2008, must have a total of 24 hours of continuing education. 16 hours must be in mandatory hours which include 2 hours in Fair Housing, 3 hours in Ethics & Standards of Conduct, 1 hour in Legal Updates/Law, 1 hour in Real Estate Agency, 1 hour in Real Estate Contracts, and 8 hours relating to Supervision and Management of Real Estate Agents and the Management Brokerage Firms. The remaining 8 hours may be in Real Estate Related Subjects or the specific categories.

Where can I find out what CE / PL hours I have and when my license expires?

http://www.dpor.virginia.gov or call DPOR at (804) 367-8526

How long does it take for credits to be processed and posted at DPOR after a class is taken at RECA / FAAR?

CE / PL forms are normally processed by staff within two business days following the end of program, however we have no control over DPOR and occasionally it can take up to 30 days for credit to be awarded. NEVER wait till the last minute to take courses necessary to renew your license.

I have to renew my license in the next thirty days and I haven't taken any, or only a few classes.

FAAR / RECA does not currently offer any condensed CE/PL courses, however you can visit www.Moseley.org and schedule yourself for a one or two day condensed program. RECA does have many classes at a very affordable rate for members throughout the months. Agents can easily get their required hours by scheduling themselves for courses throughout the year.

Where do I find information about the upcoming FAAR / RECA Class offerings?

There are many modes of communications that are used by FAAR Marketing to keep you informed of upcoming classes. At least twice in a year you will be mailed brochures outlining the class offerings. We also e-mail out the information at least a month before each course offering. You can visit www.FAARMembers.com for detailed information and lastly Newsletters, flyers and postcards are sent to all members routinely. When in doubt you can e-mail Education@FAARmembers.com for more information.

What is RECA?

RECA is the Real Estate Career Academy. Which is the name of the real estate school administered by the Fredericksburg Area Association of REALTORS®.

When does the FAAR Education Work Group meet?

The Education Workgroup meets on the second Monday of each month at 10:00 am, in the Board room at FAAR.

Why doesn't RECA / FAAR offer night and weekend courses?

As real estate professionals typically meet with clients during the nights and weekends, we received many complaints from agents that needed particular courses that evening and weekend classes hampered their client time therefore adversely affecting their income. These issues combined with the difficulty and hardship imposed on the volunteer instructor base compelled the Education Working Group to modify the schedules to present classes during traditional business hours.

Where can I find information about REALTOR® designations, as I hear that those with at least one designation make an average of $47,000 more than those without?

RECA / FAAR does offer a number of ABR, CRS, GRI etc… courses as does the Virginia Association of REALTORS. You can find a complete handbook on the various designations at:

http://www.varealtor.com/Education/ProfessionalDesignations/tabid/112/

You can also find courses offered all over Virginia, as well as those offered by RECA at: www.VARealtor.com under "Education"

Why is there a charge for education offerings at FAAR / RECA?

Whereas members do pay dues, those funds only go toward offsetting the high cost of offering our quality courses. Educational offerings, instructor fees, society memberships and staff services are all variables in offering these programs.
